National Grid said that the power is off more than 270 000 480 000 of its customers in Rhode Island.

The utility has 6,500 people working in Rhode Island today, the phone operators linemen and engineers to manage the damage caused by Hurricane Irene, said spokesman David Graves WPRI-TV.

There are 80 teams of private contractors to help repair a national network of activities, many of the central region.

It would be days before power is returned to Rhode Island, according to Graves.

"It could be next week before returning to all customers," said Graves.

The total number of customers in Rhode Island without being able to hit 277.00 at 16:00

Other 5000 Pascoag Utility District customers without power.

"We see the son running around. Narragansett Just in Cumberland," said spokesman Thomas Kogut utility.
